The World Federation of Professional Footballers (FIFPro) included Cristiano Ronaldo in the list of 26 candidates for the World Team of the Year 2022.

Ronaldo was nominated in the front line, alongside Benzema, Haaland, Lewandowski, Mbappé, Messi and Neymar. The list also includes three goalkeepers, eight defenders and eight midfielders. FIFPro will announce the 11-player team at the FIFA annual awards ceremony on February 27, in Paris.

Ronaldo finished the 2021-2022 season with 24 goals for Man Utd, but did not win any titles. The second half of 2022 is a period of crisis for this individual striker. In the first 16 matches of the 2022-2023 season, Ronaldo only scored three goals for the "Red Devils". After publicly condemning the club and coach Ten Hag, CR7 had to accept the liquidation of the contract. Ronaldo's crisis lasted until the 2022 World Cup. Here, he scored only one goal in five matches and Portugal was eliminated in the quarterfinals. From the beginning of 2023, Ronaldo moved to Saudi Arabia to play for Al Nassr.

Playing better than Ronaldo for the whole year, but striker Vinicius was not noticed by FIFPro. The Brazilian star scored 22 goals in the 2021-2022 season, helping Real win both La Liga and the Champions League. In the Champions League final, the 22-year-old striker scored the only goal to bring a 1-0 victory over Liverpool. Vinicius is also in better form than Ronaldo in the first half of the 2022-2023 season: scoring 16 goals in 33 games for Real.

While Vinicius was absent, four other Brazilian players were nominated, including Alisson Becker, Thiago Silva, Casemiro and Neymar. Brazil is also the country with the most players nominated.

The new World Cup champion, Argentina contributed three players including: Emiliano Martinez, Enzo Fernandez and Lionel Messi. France also has three players: Theo Hernandez, Benzema and Mbappe.
